Public Art 101 sessions allow us to provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities to artists who are transitioning their practice from studio work to the realm of public art.

2017 Session Launch

We are pleased to announce the current session line-up for our Public Art 101 Professional Development Series geared towards artists and community members. Topics are chosen based on the needs and interests expressed by artists. All of the sessions are free but registration is limited.

1. An introduction to Public Art in Calgary

Tuesday, March 14, 2017 – 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 pm
Historic Holy Angels School, Gymnasium – 2105 Cliff Street S.W.

Kicking off the 2017 development series, this session provides an overview of the background and future development of the Public Art Program. Learn about the policies and plans that guide the program, the different aspects of the program and how artist opportunities come into being.

2. Applying for RFPs, and the Selection Process

Learn about the opportunities and processes involved in public art commissions.

3. Developing a Public Art Project Part 1

Receive expert advice in navigating the logistics planning, budgeting and expectations in public art commissions.

4. Developing a Public Art Project Part 2

Tuesday, October 10, 2017 – 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 pm
Historic Holy Angels School, Gymnasium – 2105 Cliff Street S.W.

Explore the non-traditional ways in which artists can work in the public realm, such as social practice, community engagement, temporary practices and performance art.
