Manifest announces Grand Jury Prize

Starting with this, our 13th season, Manifest is launching a new annual cash award of $2500. The Annual Manifest Grand Jury Prize will be a seasonal capstone recognition awarded to one work from among all those exhibited on-site at the gallery across the season.

This first prize will consider works exhibited at Manifest from late September 2016 through mid-September 2017.
DETAILS OF THE $2,500 MANIFEST GRAND JURY PRIZE

  • At least one work per exhibition will be included for consideration.
  • Multiple works which each received the same high score in their respective jury process will each be included in the Grant Jury Prize pool.
  • Candidates are determined by original exhibition jury scores alone, which consist of, on average, anywhere from 5 to 12 jurors’ scores.
  • Every exhibit across the season, excluding the Manifest Prize Winner*, will be eligible. (The Manifest Prize is a separate cash award process and solo exhibit.)
  • There is no need to resubmit works. Consideration is automatic based on exhibition participation.
  • Candidacy will not be announced until sometime in late August, at which point the works being considered will be shared publicly.
  • Solo exhibitors, or one-off curatorial projects, will have the exhibit’s candidate work selected by the artist, the curator, Manifest’s staff, or a combination based on consultation. Only one work may be included in consideration from each solo exhibition.
  • The winner of the Manifest Grand Jury Prize will be determined by an end-of-year jury from among the pool of top-scoring works from each exhibit across the current exhibition season. This jury will likely be made up of all jurors from across the season, and could total as many as 20-30 individuals.
  • Upon finalization the winning work will be announced via the Manifest website, social media channels, and in a press release. The cash prize award of $2500 will be conveyed shortly thereafter.

WHY THE MANIFEST GRAND JURY PRIZE

  • Heighten the reward for involvement in our competitive exhibition jury process.
  • Make an even deeper impact on the career path of the winning artist.
  • Add value to having achieved high scores in the peer-based jury process, and recognize this publicly as an award of recognition and merit.
  • Infuse enthusiasm and an investment in the package of each Manifest season, and the outcome of a suite of exhibitions at a whole.
  • To give back, and provide incentive for achievement and risk taking.

Manifest’s nonprofit gallery exhibition schedule includes a range of exhibits across each season, running late September through mid-September every year. Each season includes an average of 30 different exhibits, ranging from solo shows, annual projects, and thematic group exhibitions unique to each season.

Manifest is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit operated by a small team of volunteers and staff consisting of students, artists, and teachers. Our first goal has always been to ensure that Manifest’s exhibition programming is meaningful to those who make it possible—the artists without whose works the Manifest exhibitions could not happen. Our efforts to publicize, document, showcase, and celebrate each exhibition form the basis of our commitment. Manifest’s exhibitions have such a valued reputation that simply passing through the jury process and being included in a show is seen as an award in and of itself. However, we are always searching for new ways, within our limited means, to add value and underscore the importance of excellence in the visual arts—to make an impact on those who honor us with their involvement and trust.
