Enter Text is an international residency program for poets, writers and text-based artists, taking place at Arteles Creative Center in Hämeenkyrö, Finland. The program brings together emerging and established writers & artists with various backgrounds, from all fields of literature and text-based art. (For other disciplines, please see our other programs.)
Connect, experiment and play
The program is ideal for connecting with other active and ambitious writers & artists. Try out new interdisciplinary or cross-genre works and collaborations, gain new perspectives to your usual practice and get inspired by the unique surroundings of the Hämeenkyrö countryside (European Union Landscape Award 2009).
The structure of the program is flexible, allowing you also to barricade in your writer’s chamber anytime you feel like it. All participation in the group activities is voluntary. The residents are allocated a private bedroom with a large working desk by a window, while there are also shared studio slots available for more social ways of working. During the month, there is a possibility to participate/perform in a reading night at a local venue.
Rawness and darkness – and sauna
Surrounded by forests, fields and lakes, the location of the residency is perfect for working and reflecting in peace and silence, close to the nature. With its raw, late-autumny landscapes, November is one of the darkest months in the North – also meaning that on a clear night, the sky is filled with stars and satellites (or even auroras, if you get lucky).
Thanks to Finland’s everyman’s rights, the many forests nearby can be entered and explored freely. And, what better way to end a long walk or an intensive writing day, than to relax in the creative center’s traditional wood-burning sauna.

With applicants without a remarkable CV or a long career, work samples and the suggested idea/approach play a more significant role.
In general we are open to raw ideas and long term ‘work in progress’ approaches, as we understand that when working in the creative field, your subjects, interests and working methods tend to change and evolve along the way.
The primary working language of the applicant does not have to be English, but work samples written in or translated into English (or Finnish) are required (max 5 pages). Duos are also welcome to apply. Please note that children are not permitted in the residency.
