Canada 150

The City of St. Albert’s Art in Public Places program is seeking Expressions of Interest from professional artists and artist teams to create one three-dimensional public artwork in recognition of Canada’s 150th Anniversary.

This is a competition for a public artwork that thoughtfully responds to the context of its site location and the community of St. Albert, a vibrant, innovative and thriving city. The residents of St. Albert share a strong community vision, cherish their unique identity and celebrate the multitude of stories, people, events and perspectives that have shaped the past and present, and are integral to the future.

Working together with key stakeholders, the City’s Art in Public Places team has identified three possible site locations for the Canada 150 public artwork. Situated within different areas of St. Albert, the locations provide distinct public art opportunities that offer maximum public visibility, engagement and enjoyment of the public art.

Artist(s)/teams are asked to select one primary site location from the three provided, and develop an artwork concept for the site. As part of this competition, artists are asked to include a public engagement component in their letter of intent. Public engagement includes any scope of work that engages community members, groups or partners of St. Albert during the production phase of the artwork and/or following installation of the artwork.

This is Part One of a two-part artwork selection process. The objective of this pre-qualification process is to compile a list of interested artist(s)/teams and evaluate them based on experience, qualifications and concept. Part Two of the selection process will be the release of an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for a detailed artwork concept proposal. The ITT will be presented to the shortlisted artist(s)/teams selected from the Part One pre-qualification process.

The total budget for the Canada 150 Public Art Project is $240,000.00 (plus GST if applicable) Deadline for Submissions is 2:00:00 pm MDT on August 17, 2017
