CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS – IKG LIVE 2
January 11-13, 2018
Deadline: October 23, 2017
The Illingworth Kerr Gallery (IKG), as part of the Alberta College of Art + Design (ACAD), is a world-class exhibition space and flexible platform for critical enquiry and theoretical debate with a focus on visual culture. As the longest-running international art program in Calgary, the gallery acts as an interface between ACAD, its activities, student population and faculty, as well as the broader community.
IKG LIVE 2 is a 2-3 day long festival dedicated to live art (including happenings and actions, performance, physical theatre and dance). Each day includes live performances that will take place in the Illingworth Kerr Gallery, one after the other or simultaneously. Participating artists are paid in accordance with CARFAC performance presentation fees (Category I). In addition, a special guest will deliver a keynote presentation on the occasion of the event and announce a cash prize awarded to the best performance, as selected by the IKG Live Prize Committee. The IKG Live Prize Committee is comprised of gallery staff, 1 ACAD faculty member, the keynote speaker and 0-1 event sponsors.
Call for Applications
IKG LIVE 2 will take place January 11-13, 2018 and will include performances by artists or artist collectives. The call is open to artists either born in, went to school in or currently residing in Alberta, whose practice actively engages, challenges and questions the notion of temporality within the exhibition context, to showcase their work and talent. Artists may apply as individuals, collaborations or groups. There is a limited budget available for travel and regional artists with extensive travel costs may not be fully subsidized.
Artists will be offered an empty gallery space (see attached floorplan – Gallery 2) with standard tech and lighting support. Although no physical alterations can be made to the space, artists are encouraged to bring their own materials. Performances will occur either simultaneously or consecutively. Consideration should be given to time needed for set up and strike and the length of performance, with longer or durational performances possibly being accommodated outside of the gallery space.
Applications should include:
- Brief project description including planned activities, timeframe (set up, strike and performance time), technical requirements and artists involved (max 1 page)
