Submission and Selection Committee Process

Individual artists and collaborative teams in all disciplines are encouraged to submit a self-directed project proposal for an Artist Studio Residency Program beginning June 1, 2018, lasting for one year. Arts Habitat is seeking submissions from local artists to develop work-in-progress and produce original work, including, but not limited to visual art, craft, curatorial practice, dance, design, new media, performance, photography, sculpture, sound, video, and writing. The Artist-in-Residence will be able to engage with Arts Habitat staff and community, as well as guests of McLuhan House’s many events. Project proposals relating to Marshall McLuhan or his work are an asset.A multidisciplinary jury appointed by Arts Habitat evaluates all submissions, and the artist(s) will be chosen through a one-stage Selection Committee process unless otherwise determined by Arts Habitat. The selected jury includes artists and professionals selected for their skills, knowledge, and abilities by Arts Habitat. Arts Habitat juries will reflect diversity in disciplines. Jurors may serve at more than one deadline for the Art Studio Residency Space. Arts Habitat reserves the right to revoke the competition for the Artist Studio Residency Program.

Emphasis will be placed on finding an artist or artists with strong artistic work, and good potential to succeed in producing artwork in the available space/time. Demonstrated history of self-directed creation and presentation is required. Relevance to the legacy of Marshall McLuhan may be considered.
