Residency at ZK/U, Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U) Open Call
Deadline: May 20th, 2018
[…] IN RESIDENCY – ZK/U OPEN CALL
INDIVIDUAL SUPPORT. SPACE. COLLABORATIVE AND NETWORKING POSSIBILITIES.
The residency program proposes a platform for cross-disciplinary exchange between artists, scholars and practitioners that will foster both short term and long term ties. ZK/U provides residents with the freedom of re-defining the dynamics of this work and living environment continuously, which means the level of exchange and dynamics of collaborative process are highly depending on the fellows’ approach. The autonomous framework of the residency consists of an active-collaborative format for mutual exchange, weekly dinners, where the residents get the opportunity to introduce their practice to a selected audience, and monthly studio visits by professionals from ZK/U’s network. Fellows furthermore have the possibility to share their work with a broader public during the OPENHAUS, a monthly open studio format, and by proposing their own public events and projects.
The residency team bridges the fellow’s interests to the program of ZK/U, informs the residents about events and discourses taking place in the city and can support them in understanding the milieu they are working and living in. Residents are encouraged to attend ZK/U’s public program which offers a variety of established formats like the Gütermarkt and Speisekino or in events, exhibitions, workshops and conferences organized through long term projects in partnership with local and international organisations. ZK/U has defined four thematic investigation leads which shape its program and encourage residents to think along these lines in order to create a common frame of reference where the fellow’s interests and the activities of ZK/U overlap.
3-8 MONTH RESIDENCIES FOR ARTISTS, SCHOLARS AND PRACTITIONERS AT ZK/U BERLIN
Every half a year ZK/U welcomes new applications from artists, scholars and practitioners for a place in the residency programme. The ZK/U residency is a production space where artists, researchers and practitioners can meet and work on individual or collaborative projects and ideas. The programme consists of various formats for exchange with selected and broader audiences. The residency space offers studio-apartments and communal facilities; the costs for which are between €550 and €850 for individual fellows depending on type of studio-apartment and length of stay.
ZK/U welcomes artists, scholars and practitioners that concern themselves with the phenomenon of ‘the city’. The programme is open to a range of contemporary artistic positions that are conceptual, interventionist and contextual. Artists are expected to have a broad record of projects and exhibitions. Scholars and practitioners should have some years of professional experience. One can apply individually or as a group. Group applications consisting of artists working together with scholars or practitioners from other disciplines are especially welcome.
ZK/U encourages applications from aspiring residents whose own practices fit into ZK/U’s conceptual frame, and invites fellows to involve themselves with the residency programme and propose their own formats. In the frame of this Open Call, ZK/U is particularly interested in initiatives that create spaces for encounter and exchange between citizens from diverse backgrounds; formats that question and reclaim urban infrastructure and public space for the commons; practices that make global complexities graspable in a local context; and projects that imagine forms of local belonging within post-migration societies. As such, the ZK/U aims to be a platform for active-collaborative, socially engaged and locally involved art and research praxis.
