Mark your calendars and get your reusable shopping bags ready for June 2nd when Calgary’s largest outdoor inner-city farmers market – the Farmers & Makers Market at cSPACE – opens on the grounds of cSPACE King Edward arts hub (1721-29 Avenue SW) in a local food, arts & culture smashup with something for everyone!
**June 2nd, and every Saturday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. through October 6th,** over 50 of Calgary’s best local and ultra-local farm, food and artisan vendors will join cSPACE’s thriving community of artists, makers, galleries and arts organizations, to present an entirely new Farmers Market experience, focused on “feeding communities and culture”.
Saturdays have never been better, and going local has never been so fun! Meet your farmers and find an incredible selection of fresh produce and locally made, baked and grown goods. Enjoy brunch or lunch from 3 different food trucks, listen to great local bands and buskers, and bring the kids to experience free childrens’ arts and culture programming and our Market Kids local-food literacy program. Catch up with friends and neighbours, explore the art, artists and creatives of cSPACE, and come discover how fun it is to GO LOCAL TOGETHER!
Opening Day Market Stage presents:
10am – 12:30 Fromage Chaud (FROMAGE CHAUD is a duo featuring Linda Kitchin and Darcy North playing a wide selection of world beat dance music, jazz, and blues. Linda is a dazzling string player, playing the mandolin and violin. Darcy is a virtuoso accordionist. www.kitchin.ca)
12:30 – 3pm Suns n’ Roses (Suns n’ Roses is a harmony-centric four-piece band fronted by Nico Brennan with Laurie Fuhr, playing the ukelele, upright bass, lead guitar, percussion. www.nicobrennan.com)
The Farmers & Makers Market at cSPACE has partnered with awesome local organizations to make your weekly visit to the market day fantastic: Youth Central’s amazing Youth Volunteer Corps’ team will be on hand to support market services and activities, and Nurture Nest presents our free Kids Arts & Culture Program with an awesome line-up of hands-on experiences for kids guided by some of Calgary’s best local arts educators, authors and theatre organizations!
