This position is a seasonal ten month contract which runs from September 2018 to June 2019. The position begins with training in early September.

Location: St. Albert Place Visual Art Studios, St. Albert, AB.

Workdays: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 8:30 am – 3:30 pm

Art Gallery of St. Albert (AGSA), with Arts and Heritage St Albert, has exciting opportunities for highly energetic, creative and organized individuals. Visuals Arts Educators support artistic achievement and visual culture in St. Albert and surrounding area, by providing inspiring, engaging and hands-on educational art programs for the community. AGSA is passionate about art education and its capacity to develop confidence and a variety of life and career skills in students.

Job Description:

  • Spark curiosity amongst students in a variety of subjects, engaging participants intellectually and kinesthetically through visual arts activities
  • Prepare and deliver curriculum-based visual art programs for Elementary, Junior High and High School groups
  • Build positive relationships with colleagues, teachers and visiting school groups
  • Provide excellent customer service to all participants
  • Organize and maintain program equipment and supplies
  • Ensure proper health and safety procedures are followed

    Ideal candidates possess:

  • A passion for art with a Fine Arts Diploma/ Degree, Art Education Degree (equivalent and or transferable skills/ experience will be considered)
  • Aboriginal Studies certificate or equivalent knowledge of First Nations, Metis, Inuit art and perspectives are considered assets
  • Experience instructing art to children, youth or adults in group settings
  • Passionate about working and learning with children
  • Studio experience with various media
  • Experience with clay (wedging/ hand-building)
  • Effective classroom management skills for diverse groups and age levels
  • Excellent communication skills with all types of learners
  • Proactive, flexible and positive approach to all aspects of the job
  • Committed, punctual and dependable team player
  • Drivers license an asset
  • French and Cree language skills an asset
  • Current Emergency First Aid/CPR certificate
  • RCMP criminal records check and a vulnerable sector check

    Work schedule

  • Programs take place at schools or in the St. Albert Place Visual Art Studios
  • Rate of pay ranges from $54.00 – $57.00 per program and is based on qualification
